Mirror Garden(清鏡)

Mirror Garden(清鏡)

Located on the plaza between General Buildings II and III, Mirror Garden(2000)was created by Wang Twin Wood(王存武)and consists of the following elements. The “mirror door” surrounds the Tsing Hua Gate. The “human mirror” is situated on the plaza in such a way that its northeast corner reflects duplicate Tsing Hua Gates, while the southeast corner doesn’t reflect it at all. The “sky mirror” uses the shadows of the midday sun to exhibit the trajectory of the 24 solar terms of the traditional Chinese calendar. The “earth shadow” is composed of a slab of black granite on which people are welcome to write graffiti that is washed off every time there is a heavy rain. The “mist mirror” is a kind of fountain, but it has become dysfunctional due to a blocked water pipe. Originally the Mirror Garden also included an “earth mirror,” which has been removed after being damaged.
