The name of this lake commemorates the period when, due to the Japanese occupation of Eastern China, Tsinghua, Peking, and Nankai Universities（南開大學）were all moved to Kunming, where they were temporarily merged to form the National Southwestern Associated University（西南聯大）. Located directly in front of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Building, the Lake has a sluice gate for regulating the water level. On the lake is a red footbridge providing fine views of the schools of koi swimming in the shimmering water. The shady path surrounding Kunming Lake（昆明湖）makes for a pleasant walk in a summer afternoon.
