Green Energy Teaching and Research Building(綠色低碳能源教學研究大樓)(Lee Tsen Min Building 李存敏館)

Located next to the Engineering and System Science Building, the Green Building(2016)was mainly funded by alumnus Dr. Lee Weide(李偉德)(the son of Lee Tsen Min). The building’s chief architect was Chang Tsinghua, (張清華) for whom energy efficiency and sustainable development were the main design considerations. Thus the Building features high ceilings, extensive use of natural ventilation, and white curtain walls on the east and west sides which allow light and air in, but block direct sunlight; as a result, the Building’s air-conditioning costs are about 70 percent less than those of a conventional building of the same size. The Building houses various research laboratories developing the next generation of green-energy technologies, including high-efficiency batteries and wireless solar chargers. Thus the building is said to be “green inside and out.”
