In 1969 the Tsinghua Alumni Association began raising funds to build a large auditorium, and alumnus Tang Hsing Hai （唐星海）generously pledged to make a matching donation equal to all alumni donations combined. The lead architect was alumnus Chu Pin（朱彬） of Kwan, Chu, and Yang Architects（基泰建築師事務所）. The Main Auditorium （1973） has a seating capacity of 1,600 and was renovated in 2000. In addition to hosting regular school assemblies, for many years this elegant building has served as one of the leading arts and performance venues in northern Taiwan. This building is currently being converted into a world-class Chun-shan UMC Concert Hall（君山音樂廳）, and will be suitable for symphony orchestras.
