Hsiangsi Lake is located in the Mei Valley section of the campus, which was densely forested prior to being developed in the 1980s, and still has a large number of acacia (Hsiangsi)trees. The soil excavated during the construction of the adjacent Engineering and System Science Building was piled into an embankment at the bottom of Mei Valley, thereby forming Hsiangsi Lake(1985). The wide trail around the lake is flanked by a wide range of flora, including plum trees, cherry trees, rhododendrons, coral trees, plumerias, sweet osmanthus, and poinsettias. The Lake is also home to a number of water fowl.
