During the initial phase of construction, most of the buildings at NTHU were named after those of the original Tsinghua campus in Beijing, and the Campus Green is no exception. In 1963 the acacia grove near the main gate was cleared to make way for this lawn covering approximately one hectare, and in the same year the graduate students of the class of 1963 donated a flag-raising platform. In the early years of NTHU this is where the undergraduates did their morning calisthenics, and now serves as the venue for a wide variety of outdoor activities, including art performances, kite flying, camping, films, and picnics. The Campus Green is especially attractive in April, when the cotton trees on two sides are in full bloom.
